October 22, 2026
The Baker Museum's biggest exhibition this season is on view from October 17, 2026, to February 14, 2027. It is The Surrealist International: Fifty Years of Dreams, on the museum's third floor at 5833 Pelican Bay Boulevard, and it is built from the collection of Tate in the United Kingdom. Art After Hours, the museum's free evening, runs on the last Wednesday of each month from 6 to 9 p.m. Before the show closes, those Wednesdays fall on November 25, the night before Thanksgiving, and December 30, the night before New Year's Eve. One more falls in late January. February's is on the 24th, ten days after the Tate works leave.
So there are only a few free looks at Magritte and Dalí, and most of them come during the weeks when the guest room is full. For a household within tram distance of the Artis-Naples campus, these nights are a holiday plan worth booking now, not an outing to save for later.
The exhibition looks at surrealism as something that spread around the world after its Paris debut more than a century ago. It is organized by theme rather than as one style: dreams, the natural world, the politics of freedom, unexpected objects and repressed desires. The familiar names are Eileen Agar, Jean Arp, Leonora Carrington, Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, Dora Maar, René Magritte, Lee Miller, Joan Miró, Man Ray and Dorothea Tanning. The less familiar ones may be the reason to go twice: Ithell Colquhoun, Kati Horna, Malangatana Ngwenya, Osamu Shiihara and Lionel Wendt. The image Artis-Naples uses for the show is Magritte's The Reckless Sleeper, a 1928 oil on canvas that Tate bought in 1969.
Florida Contemporary 2026–27 opened the same day, featuring Dustin Harewood, Nicario Jiménez-Quispe, Savannah Magnolia and Anastasia Samoylova. It stays up through June 27, 2027. Linling Lu's music-inspired Fugue in 3 Voices has been up since July and closes January 3, 2027. On December 5, Baron Wolman: Capturing the Sound of an Era, developed with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, opens and runs through June 13, 2027.
Those dates overlap in a way that matters for the calendar below. There is only a short window when all four shows hang in the building at once, and the December free night falls inside it.
October's Art After Hours on October 28 was a Día de los Muertos night with Mariachi Cielito Lindo and a demonstration by Jiménez-Quispe. Its community ofrenda stays in The Baker Museum lobby through Sunday, November 1. Here is what the remaining free nights offer:
| Free night | Entertainment | On view that evening |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday, Nov. 25 | Roman Fortune | Surrealist International, Florida Contemporary, Linling Lu |
| Wednesday, Dec. 30 | The Rick Howard Trio, with Rick Howard, Stu Shelton and Tony Vigilante | Surrealist International, Florida Contemporary, Linling Lu, Baron Wolman |
| Last Wednesday of January | Not yet posted | Surrealist International, Florida Contemporary, Baron Wolman |
December 30 is the strongest of the three. It is the only free night when all four exhibitions are open, and it is your last free chance to see the Linling Lu work, which closes four days later. It also falls between Christmas and New Year's Day, when the museum keeps holiday closures. Regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The museum is closed Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. If you have family in town that week, the Wednesday evening is the free option and the daytime hours on either side are the paid one.
November 25 follows the same logic a month earlier. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving, so the free evening the night before is the last chance to see the galleries until Friday.
The January night has no published lineup yet. The monthly schedule puts it on the last Wednesday of the month, so check the Artis-Naples events calendar before you plan around it.
The regular ticket costs less than a lunch on the Waterside patio. The posted rates are $10 for adults and $5 for full-time students or active military with ID. Children 17 and under get in free, as do Friends of Artis-Naples. That free admission for 17 and under is a big part of the holiday math. A daytime visit with younger guests costs only the adult tickets.
For a household that visits more than once a season, the Friends Associate membership costs $75. It covers two people for a year and includes unlimited free admission to The Baker Museum. Two adults visiting on paid days would pass that $75 by their fourth visit together. The Surrealist show, Florida Contemporary and the Wolman photographs could easily account for that between now and spring.
There are a few other free routes. Tickets to select Music and Museum performances include same-day Baker Museum admission and extended hours. Members of the North American Reciprocal Museum Association get in free with their card. Eligible Bank of America, Merrill and Bank of America Private Bank cardholders get one free admission on the first full weekend of each month with an active card and photo ID. The Museums for All program offers $1 admission per person to SNAP EBT cardholders.
Fall Community Day on Sunday, November 8, extends the free-night idea across the entire campus. Admission to Artis-Naples, including The Baker Museum, is free from 1 to 5 p.m. There is a museum scavenger hunt, an instrument petting zoo, bilingual storytelling, face painting, food trucks and youth performances. That afternoon also brings a free Youth Symphonia concert in Hayes Hall at 1 p.m. and a free Youth Chorus concert there at 5 p.m.
Free does not mean walk-in. The Artis-Naples ticket policy says free concerts, including Community Day performances, require tickets. The event pages say those tickets will be released later. The same applies to the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra's free Fall Chamber Ensembles concert on December 5 at 4 p.m. in the Ubben Signature Event Space. That is also the day the Wolman exhibition opens, so one afternoon can cover both.
Most Pelican Bay households can reach the campus without a long drive, but parking rules on free nights differ from those on concert nights. For evening and weekend events, Artis-Naples asks patrons to park in the spaces on the Kimberly K. Querrey and Louis A. Simpson Cultural Campus, in the partner lots across Ridgewood Drive, or on levels 3 through 5 of the Waterside Shops garage. A free club-style cart runs between the Waterside garage and the east entrance of Hayes Hall. Valet from 5 Star Valet covers most Hayes Hall performances, but not free events. On a holiday-week Art After Hours, plan on parking yourself.
Inside, Heidi's Place in the Norris Garden sells food and drinks. Outside food and drink are not allowed, and drinks are not allowed in the museum galleries. Finish your glass in the garden before you go up to the third floor.
The free nights are one half of a holiday calendar. The 2026–27 season, which Artis-Naples announced in full on July 13, is the other. Its theme is "To Light: The Art of Hope." Alexander Shelley, in his third season as artistic and music director, will lead the Naples Philharmonic through all nine Beethoven symphonies over two weeks. The Masterworks series opens Thursday and Friday, October 29 and 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Hayes Hall, with pianist Yeol Eum Son in Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 and Brahms' First Symphony. WGCU's season report lists Yo-Yo Ma, Audra McDonald, Itzhak Perlman, Daniil Trifonov, Renée Fleming, Sutton Foster and Kelli O'Hara among the visiting artists. It also lists the Cleveland Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic with Anne-Sophie Mutter, and the London Symphony Orchestra with Sir Antonio Pappano. The Broadway lineup includes Hamilton, Death Becomes Her, The Great Gatsby, The Sound of Music, The Notebook and BOOP! The Musical. The Naples Daily News season guide has more on the season.
Seasonal households should know one rule before buying for a holiday group. The Artis-Naples ticket policy limits orders to eight tickets per performance, per person and per credit card. Cards with a billing address outside Florida are limited to four. Tickets bought above the limit are voided without notice, and out-of-state purchases require ID at will call. If the card in your wallet bills to a home up north, a party of six for Hamilton needs either a Florida-billed card or two buyers. Only Artis-Naples sells valid tickets to its own performances, and exchanges are available up to 48 hours before a show.
